Colca Canyon

No wifi tonight, so you'll have to settle for a quick update blogged via email instead.

We left Arequipa at 7:30 this morning on a two day tour of Colca Canyon. We joined quite an international group to drive from Arequipa to Chivay, stopping along the way to see vicunas, alpacas, and llamas; to hike to a very Mesa Verde-looking set of ruins; and to shiver and take pictures at 4901 meters high. Go ahead, look up what that is in feet. It's impressive.

We just got dropped off at a dingy and cold hotel after a dip in the hot springs. We're going to meet a Belgian (Flemish) couple who is also on the tour for dinner, then get to bed early since we leave at 6AM to try to see condors.

Fingers crossed!
